It was only in 1988 that mountain biking sprouted up as an alternative adventure to trekking. Nagarkot is one of the most scenic spots located about 35 kms east of Kathmandu, from where one can relish splendid vistas of snow-capped Himalayan ranges. Besides, it is also a vantage point to witness the scintillating sight of sunrise and sunset.
Namo Buddha is a Tibetan monastery situated on a hilltop, around 45 kilo meters away from Kathmandu, in Kavre district. It is rarely visited, as the sight is not yet connected to a motor road. Since a 45 kms hike may not always be palpable, mountain bike is the best option to get us there. Namo Buddha Tour begins with a ride to Dhulikhel, a beautiful serene village located towards the east of Kathmandu. We then paddle up along the steep trail to the Kali (ferocious Hindu female goddess) Temple until we finally arrive at the monastery of Namo Buddha. After picnic lunch atop the monastery, we ride back down to Dhulikhel and check into our resort, where we halt overnight. In the days ahead, we have some off-road riding, which brings us to one of the ancient cities, Bhaktapur, via the village of Nala. This tour is actually meant for the ones who have a good flair on biking. It gives a good tease to your stamina!
